Clinical Studies on Cefurexime in the Surgical Field

Clinical response to cefuroxime, a new semi-synthetic cephalosporm antibiotic, was studied in 34 surgical cases; 31 with surgical infection and 3 for prophylaxis.
Cefuroxime was administered intramuscularly or intravenosly in does of 1.52.25gm/day except a child, and was effective in 30 cases.
Cefuroxime showed good antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, and most Gram negative bacilli except Pseudomonas such as E. coli, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Proteus, Citrobater, Salmonella.
No noticeable side effects were encountered throughout the course of treatment.
